Op 2 mei 1986 ontving Irak een levering biologische grondstoffen van een privaat biologisch onderzoeksinstituut uit de VS. De levering bevatten een aantal monsters ‘Baciullus Anthracis’ (miltvuur) ,  ‘Clostridium tetani’ (tetanus) en ‘Clostridium botulinum’ (botulisme).
